[Product: Continuous Move Planner]
Beyond providing TL, LTL, and Dedicated transportation services, Covenant Transport is a premium provider of specialized services in Critical, Hazmat, and Government and Mexican shipments. Covenant Transport celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011. Starting as a small carrier with 25 tractors and 50 trailers, the company grew to a $655-million revenue enterprise made of four operating subsidiaries operating a total of 3,000 power units and 7,300 trailers handled by about 4,000 drivers.
Headquartered in Chattanooga, Tenn. Covenant offers a variety of transportation services to customers in the retail, freight forwarder, less-than-truckload and 3PL segments. Customers include several Fortune 500 companies. Growing through acquisitions, Covenant became one of the 10-largest truckload carriers in the United States.
With sustained expansion, the company needed the right tools to stay in motion. After rigorous evaluation of logistics planning tools in the market, Covenant selected Paradox as the partner for the tools.
Having used the tools for five years now, Ken Hartman, Director of Yield Management, says “Paradox’s tools have had a dramatic effect on the productivity involved in engineering solutions for both our external customers and internally. In the past it would take us multiple days or weeks to analyze the data to provide a solution, with tools offered by Paradox this has been reduced to hours or days.”
Ken uses Continuous Move Planner (CMP) to analyze Covenant's freight network periodically to develop a network of "engineered" trucks to run their scheduled freight with multiple customers. "This has increased our utilization, on-time service and helped to reduce our driver turnover by offering the drivers more consistent home time. The use of CMP has greatly reduced the amount of time it would take to develop these routes," adds Ken.
